How can I check whether ChatGPT names my brand?

Write 10 buyer questions that leave out your brand name, then ask each question 3 times in fresh ChatGPT chats. Record each answer’s date, brand mentions, rivals and source links in a sheet, plus position when the answer has a numbered list. SearchSeal repeats your chosen questions daily and saves the answers so you can compare mentions over time.

Follow these six steps

  1. Write your buyer questions. Write 10 questions a customer would ask when choosing a product in your category. Leave your brand name out of every question in this set.
  2. Separate questions naming your brand. Keep any questions that include your brand name in a separate group. Compare their answers separately from the questions that leave your name out.
  3. Repeat each question. Ask each buyer question 3 times because answers vary between runs. Open a fresh ChatGPT chat for every attempt.
  4. Record each answer. Create a sheet with columns for question, date, whether your brand is named, position, rivals named and source links. Fill in position only when the answer has a numbered list.
  5. Compare the repeated answers. Review how often your brand appears for each question across the attempts. Keep the source links alongside each answer so you can inspect them separately from brand mentions.
  6. Set up daily tracking. Add your site to SearchSeal, then choose the questions and rivals you want to track. Open Questions and click a question to inspect its saved answers.

A worked example for a restaurant software brand

Northwind Scheduling is a made-up company that sells shift scheduling software for small restaurants. For this example, write questions from the restaurant buyer’s point of view and leave the company name out.

The example questions are: “What shift scheduling software should I consider for a small restaurant?” “Which scheduling tools should a small restaurant compare?” “How do I choose shift scheduling software for my restaurant?”

Use the same sheet format for each attempt. The columns are Question, Date, Brand named, Position, Rivals named and Source links. Copy the question exactly as you asked it and record whether Northwind Scheduling appears in the answer. Enter a position only if the answer puts the brand in a numbered list; otherwise leave that cell empty.

Record the rivals and links that actually appear in that answer. This example supplies the questions and sheet structure, with no invented ChatGPT results. Keep any separate question that names Northwind Scheduling outside this comparison set.

What to know before relying on an answer

A single answer is one observation. ChatGPT answers vary between runs, so retain every attempt when you compare how often your brand appears. If the brand appears in one answer and is absent from another, both belong in your record.

A mention and a source link are separate things to inspect. A source link does not prove that the answer used or cited that page. For a closer look at that distinction, read how to know if ChatGPT cites your website.

Position also has a specific limit. SearchSeal saves a position for a brand or rival only when the answer contains a numbered or ranked list. An answer without that structure has no position.

Keep questions that name your brand separate throughout the comparison. When you change a page and later see different answers, the comparison does not prove that the page change caused the difference. Other changes can affect the numbers.

Use SearchSeal to repeat the check daily

Start with the free site check if you want a comparison set from your site. Enter a domain without creating an account. The check returns the brand, its category and up to 4 suggested rivals from public information. It does not measure AI answers or give a score.

For ongoing ChatGPT answer tracking, choose the questions you want SearchSeal to ask each day. Every paid plan checks those questions on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. SearchSeal saves each answer it collects with its date and full text, including brand mentions and the source links that came back.

The Questions page always has the columns Question, Named by and Position; Tone and Demand appear when their respective data exists. Click a question to open its saved answers. Demand is the last 28 days of Search Console impressions for the search the question came from, plus Bing impressions when connected.

SearchSeal reports how often your brand appears over time. It also lists ranked page fixes and compares answers before and after a fix. Plan details are on pricing.
