Best AI Overview trackers (2026)
Compare eight AI Overview trackers for actual Google Search results. Check prices, source evidence, query coverage and the limits of visibility reporting.

Which tools actually track Google AI Overviews?
The best AI Overview trackers observe the generated overview in Google Search, rather than relabeling a Gemini response. SE Ranking, Semrush, Ahrefs, OtterlyAI, Rankscale, Promptwatch, Surfer and SearchSeal document or implement that surface. Choose around query coverage, location, saved source evidence and the distinction between no overview and an overview that omits your brand.
Updated October 2026. Reviewed October 3, 2026 by SearchSeal.
The best AI Overview trackers help answer a precise question: did a Google search show an AI Overview, and what appeared in that result? That is different from asking the Gemini app a question. It is also different from tracking Google AI Mode or a conventional organic position. A useful buying decision begins by insisting on the correct surface.
This guide compares eight tools that document AI Overview coverage or, in SearchSeal's case, implement a dedicated Google Search observation path. It includes focused monitors and broader SEO suites. SearchSeal is the publisher and a reviewed option, so every profile includes a reason to choose the other vendor where it fits better.
For assistant-wide analysis, read the LLM tool comparison. For how to improve an eligible page, use the AI Overview optimization guide. This page is about selecting measurement software, not promising a special formula that forces Google to display or cite a website.
How we assessed AI Overview tracking
We checked official feature, help and pricing pages on October 3, 2026. Each review identifies the actual surface, relevant price conditions, free access, practical fit and a useful evaluation task. These are documentation-based assessments, not an invented benchmark of which vendor captures the highest percentage of results.
The minimum qualification is explicit AI Overview coverage. A product that only tracks Gemini does not qualify on that basis. Beyond qualification, ask for the searched query, location, observation time, overview text and source information. Request an example where no overview appeared as well as an example where your brand was not included.
Google's own documentation explains eligibility and measurement for its AI search features. It does not promise that an eligible page will be selected. Use it to understand what the tracker can observe, while keeping vendor metrics separate from Google's recorded search performance. Google Search Central.

Engine lists describe broader product scope. For this purchase, verify the AI Overview configuration itself rather than assuming an all-engine plan has the same country, quota and history settings on every surface. The price of an unrelated writing or research product is not the price of this tracking job.
SE Ranking for AI Overviews alongside keyword work
SE Ranking has a dedicated AI Overviews Tracker product page and places it within a wider catalogue of search tools. Its Core plan currently lists daily prompt tracking alongside conventional keyword and project allowances. That makes it a natural candidate for an SEO team already managing a defined query portfolio. AI Overviews Tracker and pricing.
Evaluate the relationship between a search query and its overview evidence. Choose queries with different intentions: a factual explanation, a comparison and a product-selection question. Ask to inspect the result for each under the same stated location. Do not assume that all three should trigger an overview or that their appearance rates should be compared without context.
Then look at how the team will report the observation alongside organic performance. A conventional position and presence in an AI Overview describe different parts of the search result. Keep both if useful, but name them accurately. A page can gain one form of visibility without showing the same movement in the other.
Choose SE Ranking if AI Overview reporting belongs inside a broader recurring SEO process. Choose SearchSeal if you want a defined daily question set, saved answer evidence and page-fix follow-up without replacing the wider SEO stack. Confirm the market coverage and tracking configuration in the quoted plan.
Semrush for research and configured overview tracking
Semrush's data documentation explicitly names AI Overviews within Prompt Tracking, alongside other Google and assistant surfaces. It distinguishes custom daily tracking from broader prompt and brand-performance databases. That is useful because discovery and monitoring answer different questions even when they appear in the same product. Data documentation.
Use broad research to find relevant topics, then build a stable query panel for ongoing observation. A hypothetical travel business might identify a set of planning questions, but should still select the countries and phrases relevant to its actual customers. The database's breadth does not remove the need to define that commercial scope.
During evaluation, inspect the dates attached to each report. A recent custom observation should not be blended with a differently refreshed discovery dataset and presented as one simultaneous snapshot. Ask the team to trace a headline finding back to the exact query and original overview evidence.
Semrush offers a separate AI product and combined SEO bundles, with different prompt allocations. The relevant price depends on which workflow you buy. AI pricing and combined plans.
Choose Semrush if research and daily tracking both belong in your search workflow. Choose SearchSeal if you already know the buyer questions and mainly need to connect observed gaps to owned-page fixes. Neither configuration should be evaluated as though it reports what every Google user saw.
Ahrefs for overview discovery and a separate custom panel
Ahrefs Brand Radar documents AI Overview coverage in its index and supports custom prompts. It describes search-query-based AI data separately from prompted answer observations. The practical benefit is that a buyer can investigate a category broadly before deciding which queries deserve a controlled, recurring panel. Official Brand Radar description.
That broad discovery can be useful for an established site with many relevant topics. It can also be less decisive for a narrow new product whose important questions are unusual. Test the coverage with your own query set instead of choosing purely on an advertised database size. A missing niche topic is a reason to examine custom tracking.
Ask the vendor to show how a result is associated with the query and what collection date applies. If you plan to compare periods, preserve whether each number comes from the index or your custom panel. These are different evidence populations, so a change between them is not a clean performance trend.
Pricing also separates components. The public page displayed Custom Prompts from forty pounds per month during our review, with index pricing separately listed. Confirm local currency and the required product before budgeting; a rough currency conversion should not be presented as the vendor's official dollar price.
Choose Ahrefs if broad discovery is central to deciding what to monitor. Choose SearchSeal if the panel is already defined and page fixes are the primary output. Both benefit from reviewing source pages rather than treating every linked domain as equivalent evidence.
OtterlyAI for a modest daily overview panel
OtterlyAI lists Google AI Overviews among the four engines included in Lite. The package includes fifteen search prompts and daily tracking, while Google AI Mode is listed as a separate paid addition. That explicit distinction helps a buyer avoid treating two different Google experiences as a single coverage checkbox. Official pricing.
A small panel can work well when it is tied to a narrow product or market. Select the questions whose answers would materially influence a customer. Include at least one question with an important limitation or qualification so the review tests factual coverage as well as favorable brand mentions.
Otterly documents citation and domain analysis. In the evaluation, open the source pages associated with the observed overview and check whether they support the relevant claim. Record whether your owned page appears, whether a third-party page mentions your brand or whether the overview names the brand without the expected source. Those are distinct findings. Features.
Choose Otterly if a compact daily panel and its included engines fit your scope. Choose SearchSeal if you need a larger initial question pool tied to page fixes and later comparison. Record whether an overview appeared for each monitored query.
Rankscale for flexible search-surface monitoring
Rankscale names both AI Overviews and AI Mode in its product coverage. Its credit-based plans and scheduling options make it a candidate when a team wants different observation frequencies across different groups of queries. The entry price carries an annual-only Essentials condition that should remain visible in a budget discussion. Product and plans.
Flexibility is useful when it corresponds to a clear research design. A stable commercial panel may need regular review, while exploratory topics may be checked less often. Keep those groups separate in reporting. A change in how often queries are checked can change the composition of a dataset even when each observation is legitimate.
Ask for a concrete cost calculation using your chosen queries, surfaces and schedule. Then inspect a sample with an overview and another without one. Ask how the latter is represented and whether it remains distinguishable from a collection problem. This is a question to validate in your trial, not an unverified promise about every vendor's error handling.
Choose Rankscale if flexible schedules and additional surfaces are important enough to justify credit planning. Choose SearchSeal if its fixed daily question pool and follow-up workflow are sufficient. A larger engine catalogue is not automatically a reason to collect data your team has no time to interpret.
Promptwatch for overview evidence informing content work
Promptwatch's official pricing catalogue names Google AI Overviews separately from AI Mode, Gemini and other assistants. Its entry package allows four models, so confirm your intended selection. The product also describes content-gap analysis and editorial workflows, with plan-dependent article allowances. Pricing and product.
This fits a team whose main question after an overview observation is what to change on the website. Evaluate with one query and one existing page. Ask the proposed workflow to identify the missing information, the evidence behind the suggestion and whether an update is more appropriate than a new URL.
For example, an overview may repeatedly use an external explanation of a technical concept. That does not necessarily mean your site needs another generic definition. Your business may have a more useful contribution, such as a current compatibility table or a worked example with clear limitations. The editorial decision should follow the reader's need and your actual expertise.
Choose Promptwatch if overview research and content operations are part of the same purchase. Choose SearchSeal if a smaller set of evidence-backed fixes and subsequent observations matches the work. Review proposed articles against current product facts before publishing.
Surfer for content teams inspecting overview mentions
Surfer's help documentation includes AI Overviews in its AI Tracker reporting, and its dedicated AI Search Analytics subscription separates that tracking from its other content tools. The current pricing page lists fifty daily prompts for the standalone analytics package, with annual billing shown. Analytics documentation and pricing.
The fit is an editorial team that wants to review answer evidence alongside a content process. In a pilot, choose a page scheduled for a real update. Preserve its pre-edit facts, collect the relevant observations and decide what change would help readers. After publication, review later evidence without assuming the content score predicts the overview result.
Surfer's overview dashboard documentation is a useful place to confirm how its reports are organized. Ask the team to identify a specific source and explain what it contributed to the answer. A brand mention, a source page and a favorable recommendation should remain distinguishable in the review. Dashboard documentation.
Choose Surfer if editorial optimization and its tracking workflow fit together for your team. Choose SearchSeal if the missing piece is deciding which page fix deserves work and checking the later observations. Do not compare Surfer's cheaper content-only entry with a monitoring product as though both include the same daily panel.
SearchSeal for actual overviews and page follow-up
SearchSeal has a dedicated path that queries Google Search with country and language settings and reads the returned AI Overview text and sources. It does not treat a Gemini answer as an overview. Its current daily plans include AI Overviews alongside ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, consistent with the published engine list. Current plans.
This is a useful fit when the team wants Google overview observations beside other buyer-question evidence. Review the actual answer and returned links, decide whether an owned page needs a correction and use later observations to assess the hypothesis. The country setting records the collection context.
Some queries do not produce an overview. SearchSeal checks for the feature and only saves an overview answer when one is returned. A missing overview therefore should not be described as a saved answer that rejected your brand. Collection problems can also leave a question unchecked, which is another reason not to turn incomplete coverage into a confident market conclusion.
Choose SearchSeal if this daily evidence-to-fix process fits. Choose a broader SEO platform if large-scale query discovery and conventional rank reporting are the main requirement. The public free check is not an AI Overview checker: it suggests competitors before setup and does not measure Google overview presence.
Design a query panel for Google Search
Start with search intent and customer relevance. Group queries by the decisions they support: explanation, comparison, eligibility or product selection. Preserve the exact phrase, language and target market. Do not combine a broad informational query and a tightly branded question into one unexplained performance category.
Use Search Console as one input for selecting useful queries, while preserving what that input means. It describes your site's recorded Google search performance. It does not provide a saved copy of every AI Overview or reveal every conversational question a customer might ask elsewhere. The tracker and Search Console therefore supply complementary evidence.
Google documents how AI search features relate to website eligibility and Search Console reporting. Follow that primary guidance when describing the measurement. Use the documented requirements when reviewing technical changes. Google's AI features documentation.
Separate overview presence from brand presence
Your review should answer two questions in order. First, was an overview observed for the query under the recorded conditions? Second, if so, did it mention the brand or return the relevant page? Combining these into a single zero can conceal whether the feature was absent or the company was omitted from an existing answer.
Keep collection failures separate again. A blocked or incomplete result does not establish what the search page would have shown. Ask every shortlisted vendor how these states appear in reports. You do not need to demand identical terminology, but you do need enough detail to avoid interpreting missing evidence as an unfavorable answer.
When reporting a percentage, state the denominator. Brand presence among observed overviews answers a different question from brand presence across all planned searches. Both can be useful if labeled. Neither should silently replace the other between reporting periods. Counts alongside rates help a reviewer understand a small or changing sample.
Inspect sources before creating a content task
Open the pages returned with an overview and check their relevance. A third-party page may contain useful facts about your business, an owned page may be listed without the brand being named, or a source may be outdated. The corrective action depends on what the page actually says.
For an owned page, identify a concrete improvement: clarify a condition, update a supported integration, add a worked example or correct an obsolete statement. Preserve the publication date. For an external page, distinguish a factual error from a fair editorial judgment before deciding whether any correction request is appropriate.
Inspect recurring sources to understand the facts and explanations present in your observations. A useful content decision still requires understanding the reader's question and what your business can accurately contribute.
Read change over time with the right limits
Keep the query panel stable while comparing periods. If you add locations or change wording, report the expanded scope separately. Review saved examples behind a trend before summarizing it. Investigate newly observed overviews within the scope of the tracked query panel.
Pair the tracker with the appropriate business evidence when asking a commercial question. Overview inclusion, search clicks and customer conversions are separate observations. A tool that observes the first should not be credited with observing the entire chain. That distinction keeps the evaluation useful even when the business does not yet have complete attribution.
A worked denominator check
Imagine a fictional review of twenty scheduled searches. Eighteen return usable results, ten of those display an overview, and four overviews mention the brand. Two collections remain unresolved. The brand appeared in forty percent of the observed overviews. It appeared in four of eighteen usable search results. It was also observed in four of twenty scheduled checks, but that last denominator includes two unknown outcomes.
These are different calculations, not competing versions of the same fact. A report should identify the one it uses and preserve the underlying counts. If overview frequency rises next month, brand presence across all searches could increase even if the brand's share among displayed overviews stays unchanged. That distinction matters when deciding whether a page update deserves credit.
Now suppose a linked page appears in six overviews while the brand name appears in four. Do not silently replace one count with the other. The page may be used as a source without a named recommendation, or the brand may be mentioned through another source. Inspect the actual evidence before writing the headline.
Use this fictional example to question the reporting method in a demo. Ask where the completed searches, overview observations, mentions and unresolved checks can be inspected. The vendor does not need identical labels, but the reviewer needs enough information to avoid reporting a convenient percentage without knowing what it represents. No numbers in this example describe a tested vendor or customer outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Is tracking Gemini the same as tracking AI Overviews?
No. Gemini is a separate assistant surface. An AI Overview appears within Google Search when Google chooses to show one. A tracker should explicitly observe that result and preserve the searched query and context. This guide only includes products with documented or implemented AI Overview coverage.
Does no AI Overview mean my brand failed?
No. If no overview was observed, there is no overview answer in that sample from which to infer brand inclusion. That differs from an observed overview that does not mention the brand. A failed collection is different again. Ask how the tool reports all of these states before interpreting a percentage.
Is SearchSeal a free AI Overview checker?
Its paid plans include daily AI Overview observations, but the free public check does not. The free flow suggests a company, category and possible competitors. Use it to prepare a comparison set, then choose tracked questions in a plan for measurement. The Starter trial requires a card.
Can a tracker guarantee a page will appear?
No tracker guarantees inclusion or proves that a particular edit caused it. Compare later samples and follow Google’s current primary guidance for its search features.
