# The Hotel Questions Keyword Tools Can't See

> Guests ask AI for a romantic hotel in Paris or a business stay in Tokyo. Keyword tools show no data for those questions, but AI answers them every day.

## Why do keyword tools miss hotel questions?

Most hotel marketers use keyword tools to plan content by counting what people type into Google and Bing. Guests ask ChatGPT or Gemini full questions instead, many of which never appear in keyword data. To check how big the gap is, we looked up the 59 English hotel questions from our AI hotel study in Google Ads search volumes and Bing Webmaster keyword data for the same eight cities.

## Short phrases have volume, trip questions often don't

| Question | Google searches a month (worldwide) |
|---|---|
| best hotels in Paris | 27,100 |
| best boutique hotel in Paris | 22,200 |
| best hotels in Tokyo | 18,100 |
| family friendly hotel in Singapore | 2,900 |
| family friendly hotel in Paris | 1,900 |
| best luxury hotel in Paris | 1,300 |
| romantic hotel in Paris for couples | no data |
| where to stay in Tokyo for a business trip | no data |
| best budget hotel in Bangkok under $70 a night | no data |

Short phrases such as "best hotels in [city]" have real search volume, and so does "family friendly hotel in [city]" in seven of the eight cities. Three kinds of question came back with no data in all eight cities: "romantic hotel in [city] for couples", "where to stay in [city] for a business trip" and "best budget hotel in [city] under $[price] a night". Bing had even less keyword data: figures for "best hotels in [city]" and almost nothing else, even for questions Google records at thousands of searches a month.

None of this means nobody asks these questions. Google's keyword tool hides small numbers, and thousands of slight wording variations spread out a full question, making it invisible to the tools.

## AI answers them anyway

ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek answered every one of these questions in full, usually naming between five and fifteen hotels, and the answers were specific. The romantic Paris lists, for example, were full of small boutique hotels such as Maison Souquet, Paris j'Adore and Hôtel La Comtesse.

Guests asking this kind of question have usually chosen the sort of trip they want, so a hotel in the answer reaches someone close to booking.

## Why this matters for hotels

1. Keyword tools miss many questions that suit you best. If you only write for "best hotels in [city]", you compete with every hotel in town for the one phrase the tools can measure.
2. The specific questions are more open. In our study, independent hotels took about 40% of the "romantic hotel" mentions and 46% of the "budget hotel" mentions, compared with about 27% for "best hotels" (see [Independent hotels vs chains in AI answers](/blog/independent-hotels-vs-chains-ai)).
3. Write for the trip rather than the phrase. A page that says who the hotel suits (couples, business travellers, families), what's nearby and what it costs gives an assistant what it needs to match you to these questions.

## How to find your questions

Begin with your front desk and reservations team, who hear guests' questions before booking. Reviews reveal guests' own words, such as "quiet", "walkable" or "good for kids". Turn those into questions, ask them to ChatGPT, Gemini and DeepSeek yourself, and note which hotels come up and where those hotels are listed.

## How SearchSeal helps

SearchSeal suggests guest questions from your Search Console data and your website and then asks them to AI assistants every day, so you can see which hotels each answer names even for questions no keyword tool can measure. See [AI visibility for hotels](/for-hotels).

## Method and limits

- Google volumes: Google Ads keyword data, worldwide, English, checked 21 October 2026. "No data" means Google returned no volume, and Google hides small numbers.
- Bing: Bing Webmaster keyword impressions for 21 July to 20 October 2026.
- We did not compare local-language questions with keyword data.
